History of Quadrant Pacific Limited / Quadrant Pacific Agencies
On the 1st July 1999, resulting from the merger of Tasman Asia Shipping and NZ Orient Line, two new companies were formed. The New Zealand Agency business was separated from Tasman Asia’s combined line and agency operation, to form its own entity and was renamed Quadrant Pacific Limited. The line businesses were merged and renamed Tasman Orient Line.
The line and the agency are co-owned by Ahrenkiel Shipping and Swire Shipping. C J Ahrenkiel and The China Navigation Company (CNCO) are joint managing shareholders, and have a contract with the shareholders to manage the business on their behalf.
In April 2002, Quadrant Pacific Agencies was created due to the new Chief Container Services (Trans Tasman) representation. Quadrant Pacific Agencies have offices in Auckland, Tauranga(Mt. Maunganui), Napier, Wellington, Christchurch, Nelson and Timaru, but can provide agency representation in all New Zealand ports.
In September 2009 Swire Shipping purchased the C J Ahrenkiel shareholding in Tasman Orient Line. As a consequence the liner shipping agency of Swire Shipping transferred from Quadrant Pacific Agencies back to Swire Shipping (NZ) Limited.
